Supplements: The Importance of a Good Multi-Vitamin

When I talk to others about supplementation,  they brag how they spend so much money on all of these different types of new supplements and how it is the next best thing.

I tell them to take a step back and ask them if they are taking a multi-vitamin?

Most of the time they either...

1.) Laugh and say that their diet is good enough and they don't need it.

2.) Just never had the proper guidance and information.

3.) Can't afford to spend more money on a multi-vitamin.

Multi's are so important to any individual whether or not they are working out. Our body needs so many different vitamins and minerals and it is extremely hard to keep track of all of them. Simply by taking a multi-vitamin it helps to overcome many of these deficiencies. By taking this supplement it creates a solid foundation for proper nutrition.

Personally, ever since I have been using this supplement I feel a huge difference in every aspect of my life. The most important thing is that my energy level has increased at an exponential rate. One day I actually ran out of multi-vitamins and for the next two days I felt extremely groggy and sluggish.

I am a huge fan of the Optimum Nutrition "Opti-Men"and if you are female reading this then there is the "Opti-Women". I take them once when I wake up with my breakfast, lunch and then dinner. Another good one that is out on the market is "Dymatize Super-Multi". There are other companies such as "Animal Pak" but I think it is kind of insane that you have to take two packs a day which consists of 11 pills per package. Unless you are Lindsay Lohan there is something about taking 22 different pills in one day that just doesn't sit well with me.

So get out and pick up some multi-vitamins as fast as you can! Your health depends on it!

  1. the only thing is, ive read it takes up to 2-3 months for vitamins to be fully integrated into your system completely. if you missed taking it for 2 days you wouldnt be lacking in everything, most is stored up in your body, besides the few that are excreted daily. if you stopped taking it for at least week or two, then you might notice a difference. if you are eating a well rounded diet with many high vitamin vegetables and foods regularly, you shouldnt notice a crappy feeling that quickly...

  2. Your body utilizes the nutrients in vitamins when they're absorbed into your system... it won't take 2-3 months. When living an active lifestyle it's important to take them daily as your body is constantly depleted of these essential vitamins/nutrients, thus supplementing daily is important to maintain good health. I myself have noticed that my energy levels aren't the same on days that I miss taking my vitamins. A well rounded diet is extremely important, but supplementing with a daily multivitamin should be treated important as well.

  3. Hey Niiaba! Thanks for the extremely insightful information. I think me being a person of habit not being able to take vitamins for a couple of days took a toll on me in a different aspect. For me psychologically I feel like it caused a problem because I was so used to taking the vitamins three times a day. I'm not sure...but I kind of compare it to for example working out and the necessity and habit of taking whey protein after I am done working out. If i was not able to take protein for a couple of days because I ran out of it, it just would not sit well with me.

Here is the thing I think that some of your information may be correct but you are over generalizing. There are different types of vitamins and minerals and some are better stored than others. For example, vitamins such as A, D, and E are fat soluble and are more easily stored in the liver and other fatty tissues, and therefore do not need to be replenished every single day. On the other hand, there is the water soluble vitamins as well such as C and B and you constantly need to supply your body with these vitamins. Vitamin B supports and increases metabolism in your body and I know for a fact that when my metabolism slows down I feel off. You want to be able to constantly rejuvenate your body with these vitamins and minerals that you need daily.
